The world’s production of silk carpets is highly refined in Iran, Turkey, and its products are as exquisite as 300-500 knots per foot. Iran is known as Persia. The Persian silk blanket produced is famous around the world. Its famous producing areas include Isfahan, Kaxiang, and Xianna. There are more than 30 types of designs and there are many varieties. The silk patterns of Iran and Turkey are mostly composed of numerous fine geometric lines and distorted flowers, which fully shows the fine craftsmanship of silk sashes, knots, and weaving.
The production process of the silk carpet is almost the same as that of the wool pile carpet, and only the raw material preparation and the post-processing are different. The silk first goes through the practice of silk, that is, the raw silk is immersed in an alkali solution to remove the appearance of the silk fiber and become a ripe silk. Generally, twenty-seven mature silks are twisted into one thread and dyed with acid dyes to become a tufting material. The mid-range silk carpet products use fine cotton yarns for latitude and longitude, while high-end products must use silk yarns for latitude and longitude. The silk carpets of various countries in the world are all adopting a twisting and tufting process to facilitate folding and preservation. The post-processing of the silk carpet uses machine leveling and carpet washing. Neutral detergents are used for the carpets and it is not necessary to use a strong oxidizer for mercerization. Chinese antique silk carpets must be cut and trimmed with decorative patterns; while high-grade silk carpets are generally not cut.
Silk carpets have become increasingly sophisticated, with rich and beautiful artistic effects, and become advanced decorative arts and crafts and collection treasures. The functional properties of the silk carpet are not as good as those of a wool planted carpet. However, because of the small number of production and the high price, the value-preserving function of the silk carpet is greater than that of a wool planted carpet. China also tends to produce high-grade silk carpets that resemble Persian rugs.
